Floodplain Management Training

The Maine Floodplain Management Program is required to do a certain number of Community Assistance Contacts each year.  This is a one-on-one phone call to provide education and technical assistance to the local official responsible for administering and enforcing local floodplain management ordinance.

We would like to target code enforcement officers who have been hired by a community, but have not yet been to floodplain management training and/or attended any floodplain management workshops.  It usually takes about an hour and we will go over the following areas with you: floodplain management regulations, the Flood Insurance Study and Flood Insurance Rate Map availability and accuracy, the permit review process, potential administrative deficiencies and solutions for correcting deficiencies in order to keep your community in compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

This is an opportunity for the floodplain manager to ask questions both specific and general to improve the town’s floodplain management process. If you could benefit from a contact like this, please call Janet Parker to set up a date and time that works for you.  Janet can be reached by phone at 287-9981 or e-mail at janet.parker@maine.gov.
