Shoreland Zoning Training

Shoreland Zoning Training - Multiple Training Opportunities

Already past (ran live on April 23, 2015) but still available online are two training opportunities:

Part 1 is approximately one hour and focuses on the new provisions of the 2015 Guidelines and the amendment process. This presentation is primarily intended for local officials who are just beginning the process of amending ordinances, in order to be consistent with the new provisions of the 2015 Guidelines.

Part 2 is approximately two hours and covers the basics of shoreland zoning standards and enforcement. This presentation is primarily for code enforcement officers, either preparing for the certification test or as a refresher.

Field Workshops for Code Enforcement Officers

In addition to the online basic training, a few field workshops will also be offered, some in conjunction with the in-person workshops on the 2015 Guidelines. The field exercises will demonstrate both current standards and new provisions of the 2015 Guidelines. These workshops are primarily intended for code enforcement officers.

Workshops on the 2015 Guidelines

The online training covers the amendment process in detail, but comparison between the current standards and the new provisions of the 2015 Guidelines is limited. These in-person workshops will include a more thorough comparison, and more briefly cover the amendment process. Local officials such as planning board members, in addition to code enforcement officers, are encouraged to attend. Information presented will be applicable whether or not the local ordinance was updated after the 2006 Guidelines. These workshops do not replace basic training on shoreland zoning.
